The Category Insights Advisor is responsible for supporting the Merchandising team with insights, tools, and strategic recommendations utilizing multiple data sources to support category initiatives and growth . The individual works with the Category Insight Manager to support strategic business priorities; harnessing our data sources to deliver insightful presentations and action-orientated recommendations. 



  • Use analytical skills and logic to prepare analysis, report on performance, and identify opportunities across a variety of categories, customer groups or business priorities.
  • Provide strategic insights to Category Managers and Directors that support category growth and apply a customer-centric approach, integrating data from multiple sources (market, customer, financial and operational data).
  • Develop relationships with specific stakeholders in Merchandising team, and identify how insights can be used to support their business questions.
  • Deliver regular reports (monthly, quarterly or annualy) to help inform and align key decisions.
  • Support the creation and delivery of the annual strategic plan for priority categories identified by the merchandising team.
  • Support any Merchandising Transformation Program: deployment, integration and including where relevant, training delivery on new tools and processes.
  • Prepare reports, create presentations and present actionable recommandations to support key initiatives of category managers and directors.
  • Develop key metrics, track and measure the implementation of recommnendations across 5 areas: Category Understanding (levers, roles), Performance Reviews (sales, customers, categories), Promotional Planning, Price and Promotion Strategy and Assortment  & Innovation (adjacencies, optimal assortment, space optimization, new product performance).
  • Provide Merchandising team insights to optimize loyalty points in their categories.
  • Participate and present in relevant recurring meetings with Merchandising teams.
  • Facilitate the role of CPGs in supporting Merchandising on their key initiatives using customer insights.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to build team dynamic, and deliver strong support to wider Metro business.



  • 3 - 5 years work experience in: Category Management, CPG roles in brand management, Marketing Research or Data/Analytics Consultancy.
  • Bachelors in Marketing, Management or Mathematics.
  • Experience in aggregating data, measuring developing reporting and a strong ability in providing key insight from data.
  • Understanding or working knowledge of the retail merchandising practice or CPG category management is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Experience with retail analytics platforms an asset.
