The Director is accountable for leading a team that builds and manages an exceptional customer experience that navigates the shopper through the entire path-to-purchase. Responsible for ensuring full integration of approved messaging across multiple customer touch points, including flyer, in-store and local digital/mass assets


Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead the Team through the development and execution of shopper marketing plans and 360-Degree Integrated Promotions with clear links to relevant shopper insights
  • Lead the annual budget planning process and ensure period consolidations remain on target throughout the fiscal year for all assigned budget lines; ensure financial auditing processes are adhered to by team
  • Collaborate with Merchandising to co-develop the annual flyer advertising plan for Food Basics banner
  • Oversee the development of all in-store communication touch points, including category and promotional signage, POS, in-store media, menu boards, etc.; collaborate with Operations & Design/Construction on Décor development
  • Oversee the development and execution of tactical marketing plans and programs to support sales and revenue objectives. Recommend measurement plans and conduct post-mortems on all marketing campaigns
  • Collaborate with Digital Marketing Team to develop and execute local digital activations to augment seasonal promotions and category marketing plans.
  • Direct ongoing processes with Transcontinental prepress to ensure timely and accurate delivery of flyers and related collateral material ensuring that Metro is up to date on technological tools and equipment available
  • Manage negotiations for all major contracts and agreements with key suppliers on the Discount business





  • Bachelor Degree in Business or Marketing; MBA an asset
  • 7 - 10 years marketing experience at a Sr. Manager or Director Level; preferably in Retail or Agency environment
  • Ability to interact with and influence key stakeholders across all levels of management
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent negotiation skills & strong project management skills
