Summary:

The Human Resources, Field Manager works as the Human Resources/Labour Relations business partner for a designated group of stores. The position acts as  a Human Resources generalist, providing day to day advice and support to store operations in the area of Human Resources and Labour Relations.

 

 

Specific Responsibilites:

 

—• Act as the Human Resources business partner to coach and advise management in their dealings with various union representatives and employees
—• Responsible for the day to day administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements, including grievance handling and advising Store Operations on Collective Agreement interpretation, as well as advising and instructing counsel at arbitration hearings and other legal proceedings
—• Participate in the development, delivery and follow up of training programs for Store Management
—• Manage the Human Resource Succession Planning process for assigned districts 
—• Approve/coordinate transfers, demotions, promotions, layoffs, leaves of absence, salary approvals, merit increases, seniority list maintenance
—• Responsible for a wide array of employee relations issues including participating in team meetings to share information and solutions
—• Investigate and resolve complaints (breaches of internal/external policies and laws)
—• Provide support to Operations in attendance/absenteeism management control 
—• Function as a resource to District Managers on  compensation/salary administration, and performance management issues 
—•

Participate in store openings and closings, conversions, and store meetings.

Participate in the bargaining of collective agreements.

 

Qualifications:

—• Post Secondary education with 3-5 years related work experience 
—• 3-5 years working with labour unions
—• Excellent time management skills, ability to maintain composure in a fast paced work environment and managing competing priorities for a variety of stakeholders
—• Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization and maintain strong relationships
—• Extensive travel required including occasional overnight stays
—• CHRL/CHRP designation is an asset
—• Retail industry knowledge is an asset
—• Experience conducting grievance meetings  and investigations is considered an asset
—• Intermediate PC skills specifically working with MS Office suite.
—• Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex situations while maintaining a commitment to handling confidential information with discretion and sensitivity

 

Relationships:

 

Internally has regular contact with Head Office Departments including Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, Accounting, Payroll, Loss Prevention, Store Operations and Legal on a variety of issues. Externally, has contact with stores, customers, union leaders and representatives, various legislative bodies and  legal counsel.
