Summary:
This is a senior risk management position, with authority to make decisions on claims management issues affecting the organization.  This position is responsible for the necessary leadership to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company's risk. The risk manager is accountable for achieving strategic objectives and communicating relevant risk and control direction and awareness to key stakeholders.  


Specific Responsibilities:
•    Lead the risk management team; execute training and development, monitor performance; organize for productivity, priorities and objectives.
•    Handling high level/confidential claims and/or escalate claims 
•    Responsible for department budgeting and allocating costs to appropriate business areas.
•    Authorize settlement authority, expenses and fee's paid on claims to internal claims specialists and external Insurers, adjusters and defense counsel.
•    Identify and analyze trends and stats; communicate to key stakeholders for awareness, performance measures, design and execute appropriate delivery method; recommend appropriate risk management techniques for reducing hazard and reputation risk.
•    Monitor and update on a quarterly basis insurance value of all Ontario properties and assist the Director, Risk Management on validating all information for renewal purposes
•    Completes quarterly reports for necessary stake holders on trends, financial exposure, claim count and other such reports required
•    Examine contractual agreements and contractor/vendor programs and recommend acceptable risk control; comment on language, indemnity, transfer, limits and coverage for use in various business decisions.
•    Manage data collection, web based application and physical files and their security.  Ensure compliance with applicable laws, statute, legislative requirements and Company policy.  
•    Monitor and audit claim files for: legal requirements at closure; investigative material and evidences, assessments, resulting financial impact; ensure database integrity.
•    Participate and represent the company at mediations and other court appearances; select and prepare Company witnesses for Examination of Discovery.
•    Design and develop presentations on timely risk management and administering topics.
•    Align key stakeholders with respect to identifying and implementing techniques and best practices to respond to occurrences, new emerging trends, unacceptable and tolerable or successful outcomes.


Qualifications:
•    University or College degree
•    5 years of relevant experience of risk management and/or insurance experience, with claims experience, preferred or proven track record in a similar role
•    Experience in the retail sector an asset, but not required
•    Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
•    Expertise in team management
•    CRM, CIP designation preferred
•    Intermediate skills in MS Office, Power point, Excel and Web Based data collection
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    Some travel required
