Summary

This position is responsible for the evolution and further development of a clearly articulated Home Meal Replacement (HMR) and Food Service Program.  The position is responsible for the execution of the strategy, tactics and product development while collaborationg with the Operations team to ensure the timely execution of intiatives within the Metro banner. 

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Accountable to achieve and surpass budgeted department performance and P&L of Hot Foods and Starbucks departments
  • Manages the coordination of all merchandising activity to ensure excellent store execution
  • Responsible and accountable for the effective and timely communciation of all key merchandising information via weekly bulletin & other means to all Metro Stores and Operations teams. 
  • Responsible for the maintenance, development and evolution of all recipe standards and food processing activity at store level. 
  • Researches and stays abreast of market trends with a goal of advancing Metro's business.
  • In coordination with the Director, is responsible to set a vision through the strategic planning process of the evolution for HMR and Food Service. 
  • Manages seasonal programs and item selection to meet and exceed customer expectations, increase transactions and maximize sales and profit while minimizing shrink.
  • Active participant and subject matter expert in the weekly ad process.  Participates in item selection, retails, flyer layout and pagination.
  • Manages display programs by selecting the most impactful and timely offers to maximize sales opportunity and sell through.
  • Required to attend at stores through regular store visits to ensure effective execution of merchandising direction.  
  • Works collaboratively with field specialists to ensure store operation procedures are maximized. 
  • Supports Cap Ex projects by providing store specific fixture recommendations.  Required to actively attend at new or renovated stores throughout the process to ensure installation and work processes are implemented and adopted as per internal standards
  • Required to attend at new concept HMR stores across the province through weekly travel with the added goal of providing direction and coaching of store teams and specialists. 
  • Required to attend at production sites for all existing and potential HMR vendors so as to understand capabilties and collaborate on first to market programs and product develoment.  Travel required across Ontario, Canada and the U.S., as applicable.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree
  • 10+ years of merchandising/category management experience within the grocery retail industry with exposure to Food Service
  • Product Development & Program Commercialization Experience specific to Fresh Foods/HMR
  • High level prioritization skills required to coordnate & multi-task wotk within strict timelines. Abilityto bring projects together and execute flawlessly to maximize sales and profit opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Excellent leadership and  interpersonal skills with proven experience in building positive and collaborative relationships. 
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Extensive travel required. Minimum 2 days per week in stores & vendors across Ontario.
  • Experience using the SAP Merchandising Module & BW, an asset  

 

Relationships

This role will work with a Category Manager, Director of Merchandising, Director of  Execution along with Field Specialists and various levels of Store Operations.
