Summary:                            
The Manager, Merchandising Insights and Analytics is responsible for supporting internal stakeholders with strategic assessment of sales analysis and market data by using an array of internal and external reporting tools designed to help formulate strategic recommendations to grow and manage categories at Metro Inc. This is a key supporting role to the Merchandising team in helping them assess and review their categories with strategic driven insights which will help better meet financial and customer objectives.                      


Specific Responsibilities:                            

  • Lead category data analysis, using internal and external sources (dunnHumby, Environics, Nielsen, and others as required)                        
  • Develop and provide in-depth strategic insights, assessment and recommendations to support category growth                         
  • Assist Merchandising team to develop and manage price & promotions strategy, assortment updates, and other merchandising decisions by category, for product categories at Metro.
  • Provide Loyalty team with key insights as to how to leverage points by category and by customer segment, for product categories at Metro.
  • Attend and lead relevant meetings with Merchandising and act as a key advisor on identified key projects within the Merchandising team.
  • Lead relevant meetings with Merchandising Directors and Category Managers and act as a key strategic resource that leads key projects within the merchandising team.                        
  • Leads Metro's priority category & assortment review process across categories                        
  • Provide ongoing support and leadership for at least one direct report.                        

                            
Qualifications:                            

  • 7 to 10 years experience in: Merchandising or Category Management, CPG or Data/Analytics Consultancy.                        
  • Fluent understanding of key Customer Insights data, metrics and KPIs as well as reporting metrics and sales measures used in a retail environment.  
  • Knowledge of dunnhumby or similar Customer Insights and reporting tools as well as working knowledge of Nielsen market data.                        
  • Understanding of Metro Inc. or similar retailer Merchandising planning processes.                        
  • Bachelors in Marketing or Management or Mathematics. A Master's degree is not a must but a definite asset.                        
  • Strong ability to write concise, strategic, and insightful reports and recommendations to meet the needs of key business stakeholders.                        
  • Bi-lingual French/English would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of retail industry would be an asset, particularly the food/grocery sector.

  • Excellent project management skill and ability to deliver on-time in a fast-paced evolving environment.                        
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of independent judgment and initiative.                        
  • Strong ability to analyse and interpret data and apply problem-solving skills to best answer business questions with actionable insights.                        
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to present ideas clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing with a range of audiences at all levels up to Executive.
